Clichy
Clichy Glassworks (France) was founded in 1837 and became known for their award winning paperweights. It grew into one of the leading glass companies in France by the end of the 19th century. The trademark of the Clichy Glassworks is a stamped letter 'C' inside of a circle. Unfortunately it is impossible to establish approximate dates of the production of glass fishing floats at Clichy. This information is taken from: 'Glass - Signatures, Trademarks and Trade Names. Radnor/PA, 1986' and 'An Illustarted Dictionary of Glass. London, 1977, 399'.
We came across 'C' marked floats of the 5 and 12 inch sizes in diameter.

An old postcard with the image of the Clichy Glassworks on it.

'C' in the circle marked float sized 5" in diameter. The marking is located on the bottom of the float. The color is moderate green. The picture was kindly provided by Richard, a collector from the US.
